Haiti Earthquake

Dear Sewanee Community,

As most of you have heard, there was a devastating earthquake yesterday in Haiti, which has left many dead and even more homeless. Our friends in Cange and Zanmi Lasante have not suffered any problems, and continue to try and contact our Haitian friends. Here is an update that was recently received from our friends Pierre Gabaud and Hyvenson Joseph . We will try to start some kind of monetary donation fund soon, and will need everyone's help once that gets set up. Until then, please keep everyone in your prayers and thoughts.

To St. Lukes and Sewanee Communities.

I ask your prayers and  make a plea on behalf of the Haitian population and communities at home and abroad for the Earthquake of magnitude 7 that hit the nation yesterday Tuesday January 12  in the afternoon.
As of today, Pierre and I have not been able to get in touch with all our families over there.  Insofar with a phone call that I received from Florida, I have got the news that I have one aunty whose house is destroyed fortunately no one was at home at this time.  I need to hear from my two half- siblings who live in the heart of Port-au-Prince, and some other relatives that live in the outskirt.
Pierre had sent a note to Suzanne last night to put Haiti in the prayer list.  As the infrastructure has been damaged that makes it difficult to communicate with the people in Haiti.   That is all the news we have got so far, and we will surely inform of any news we receive about our love ones in the middle of this disastrous situation.

Thanks for your prayers.

Hyvenson and Pierre.

Pictures and reflections to come...

Let us know what your involved with by emailing us events, stories, ideas, pictures, and video. And again, Happy New Year Sewanee!
